About Me

We are a team of students from JJC 12S30 and we are here for the shadowing research programme from 3rd June 2013 to 14th June 2013.

Day 2 @ MSE, 4th June 2013

In the morning, only Minzhi was not lost! Yihong went the other direction when he got off the bus stop, because NTU is too big and ULU! Yujia came late as she got something on with her handmade perfume with a weird orange smell.

We saw the Raman Spectroscopy Machine, which is a technique used to observe vibrational, rotational and other low-frequency modes in a system.

We also saw a researcher using the scotchtape method to obtain a single layer of graphite, otherwise known as graphene.

Moore's law states that the cost of a manufacturing plant increases exponentially as the size of the nanomaterial decreases. Proven by our observation, we found out that the cost of a GC System is ridiculously high at $60k! This immense sum of money can feed a person three meals per day for 16.5 years! This shows how valuable the GC System is. However, this is already one of the cheapest machine in the lab! Only selected PhD students have access to the machines in the lab, hence we are very lucky to be able to see how these machines function.

After that we ate lunch at the canteen again! It is still cheap, delicious and have a large portion!
